Here is an example problem you might see when trying to complete this objective when doing Accelerated Math this year.
Ex. problemh A rental car agency charges $16.00 and day plus 17cents a kilometer for a certain car. Another agency charges $20.00 plus 10 cents per kilometer for the same model. For what Kilometers driven will the cost of the car from either agency be the same? Use a table to organize the information.
Okay so first you should open up your trusty speed sheet program and staring in the top left corner you should have the following. You need Agency 1, agency 2 and kilometers travelled. Your spreed sheet should look like this one below.
Okay the column marked kms travelled you put numbers 0-200 in there so you can show the number on kilometers travelled.
After that your spread sheet should look this:
In column marked agency #1 you put $16.00 because it costs $16.00 to rent the car even before you even go anywhere and then you add 17 cents because you drove 1 kilometer, then you put 34 cents in the kilometer column marked 2. You do this until you get to the bottom. After this step your spreadsheet should look like this:
Okay now you do the same thing in column 2 except you start with $20.00 then you add 10 cents for each kilometer travelled. Then it should look like this:
Okay And the final step of this problem is to look for the two columns with relatively the same number to find your answer. The answer to this problem happens to be 62 kilometers, and here is you proof
